The South Western Circle

The South Western Circle is a Society for railway historians, modellers and enthusiasts interested in the London & South Western Railway (LSWR) which of course was one of the constituent companies that formed the Southern Railway in 1923.

lswr03The aim of the Society is to assist and encourage members, a membership which is currently over 500, to enhance their knowledge of the LSWR and its successors, so even if you are not necessarily modelling or researching the LSWR the Society also welcomes those interested in for example the Western Section of the Southern Railway, Southern Region and even the current railway scene.

It is a society that I thoroughly recommend being a member of. It currently holds five meetings a year at which usually illustrated presentations are given on a variety LSWR topics which are usually fascinating, informative and enjoyably interactive. The Society holds a wealth of archive information which can be accessed through its publication, drawing, information portfolio, and photographic collections. Those modelling the LSWR or its successors are very welcome and has a high profile within the Society.

I am currently the Publicity and Exhibitions Officer on the Society’s Committee and endeavour to promote the Society through multiple channels.

For further details of the South Western Circle visit their website here, and feel free to come along to one of our future meetings once they are no longer cancelled due to any Covid-19 restrictions.

The South Western Circle can also be found on Twitter via @LSWR_SWC
