First up this coming Saturday, 4th November is the Wycrail exhibition, now in its 45th year,  organised by my local club the High Wycombe and District MRS. This show is established as one of the largest and best one day shows in the South of England and this year should be no exception. With over 26 high quality and inspirational model railway layouts, of British, North American and Continental outline and in a wide range of scales and gauges including Z, N, 3mm, 00, H0, EM, 0 and narrow gauges.Full trade support will be present ranging from tools, kits, electronic components to R-T-R models and books.
Wycrail takes place at The Cressex Community School, Holmers Lane, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. HP12 4UD and is open between 10am and 5pm. See the HWDMRS wtycrailo website here for more details.

The following weekend 11th / 12th November sees Fisherton  Sarum make one its few exhibition appearances at the Hampton Court MRS, Tolworth Showtrain at the Tolworth Recreation Centre, Fullers Way North, Tolworth, Surrey, KT6 7LQ
This is always an excellent good sized show and well worth a visit, it is certainly show I have visited regularly and I am very much looking forward to exhibiting Fisherton Sarum in what is of course within SR territory.

Saturday 18th November is the annual High Wycombe and District MRS clubroom open day that takes place a couple of weeks after their Wycrail show (see above) and in addition to the many permanent layouts within the club room and its large multi gauge test track I have agreed that Fisherton Sarum will also be set up and running to ensure a Southern presence during the day. If you are interested in popping over to see us sometime during the day, we are open between 10am and 4pm then please drop me an email here to obtain further details.

Lastly this for November is the annual, self styled National Model Railway Exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham rrganised by the Warley Model Railway Club over the weekend 25th and 26th November. It has become a major event in the model railway calendar with a large number and wide of layouts along with many associated trade stands, the key manufacturers and model railway press all present. I shall be at the show all weekend once again assisting Mike Wild editor of Hornby Magazine operating his Twelve Trees Junction BR Southern Region layout with its newly added full fiddle yards to improve operation.

If you are attending any of the above exhibitions please come and say hello.

I make no apologies, once again, for this blatant plug, but as I am long time member, and indeed past Chairman and now Publicity Officer, of the High Wycombe and District Model Railway Society it would be wrong of me not to promote this year’s WYCRAIL ’16 exhibition that takes place this coming Saturday, November 5th

Once again it is being held at the excellent venue of The Cressex Community School, Holmers Lane, High Wycombe, Bucks HP12 4UD

HWDMRS BadgeWYCRAIL ‘16 will have over 30 (yes 30!)  high quality and inspirational model railway layouts, of both British, North American and Continental outline and in a wide range of scales and gauges including Z, N, 3mm, 00, H0, EM, P4, 0 and narrow gauges. Full trade support will be attending ranging from tools, kits, electronic components to R-T-R models and books.

The venue is conveniently close to the M40 Junction 4 and the free vintage bus service will once again be operated between Wycombe Railway Station (Chiltern Line) and Wycombe Town Centre  to the Cressex Community School.

November this year sees the 10th anniversary since the first exhibition outing for Fisherton Sarum. Wycrail 2006, the annual exhibition of the High Wycombe and District Model Railway Society, was the first public appearance, and was the first time the layout was actually fully operated.  I was however able to set the layout up for the very first time at the Society’s clubrooms the week before and some very last minute corrections to wiring etc. (thanks again Mark!) ensured that on the day itself things went pretty much to plan.

Getting a new layout on the exhibition circuit for the first time can sometimes be tricky owing the chicken and egg conundrum that to get exhibition invites you often need to be already seen on the exhibition circuit. Being a member of a Model Railway Society or Club is often a way, as in my case, of getting an invite to the Society’s own Wycrail show and therefore that first public appearance.

I have always been indebted to members of the HWDMRS and my own family for assisting with the exhibiting of Fisherton Sarum and its first outing was no exception although Simon and Daniel, now somewhat grown up working for Network Rail and being at University respectively, probably wont thank me for showing them here in their younger days…

In the ten years since that first outing I have enjoyed exhibiting across the country, at now nearly 30 shows, ranging from Wadebridge in the South West, Manchester, Hartlepool, Doncaster in the North, The Warley NEC show, Tonbridge and Worthing in the South and of course on Salisbury station itself.

Since its first few outings many things have changed, developed and been added to the layout, usually as a result of the operating team making suggestions over a pint or two, such as:

A view of the layout at Wycail 2006, I wonder where the young onlooker is now?

Fisherton Sarum returned to Wycrail in 2014 and will also be making an appearance at the High Wycombe and District Model Railways Society’s open day on Saturday 21st May 2016 see here for more details. I will continue to exhibit Fisherton Sarum, as it has always been enjoyable, but have always limited its appearances to approximately 3 shows a year and the current small number of booked appearances can be found here, although a couple more are in discussion so watch this space.

There are two more chances to see Fisherton Sarum in operation at exhibitions this year, I have timed this post to act a reminder and hopefully give you a chance to include them in your diary. As regular readers of this blog will know I only usually exhibit the layout at three or four shows each year. I am as ever indebted to my parents and fellow members of the High Wycombe and District Model Railway Society for their time and assistance at these shows to enable Fisherton Sarum to be exhibited at all.

Fisherton Sarum - LR - 20The first of the two shows coming up is the Peterborough National Festival of Railway Modeling being held on the 18th and 19th of October, at the East of England Showground near Peterborough. This show is organised by Warners publications the group behind the British Railway Modelling Magazine.

nevard_130213_FishertnSraum_DSC_4061_vanillaThe 1st of November sees
Fisherton Sarum being exhibited a little closer to home at Wycrail ’14 the annual show of my own local model railway society the High Wycombe and District MRS.
Wycrail has established itself as one of the best one day shows in the South of England, (as said by others not just my own possibly biased opinion!)  and this year maintains the standard with 28 high quality layouts attending  along with a good mix of traders and demonstrators.  Full details can be found on the dedicated Wycrail website here.
It is held in the excellent large,  bright and modern Cressex Community School, located in Cressex Road, High Wycombe, HP12 4UD. A free bus service is also provided between High Wycombe Station on the Chiltern Line, Wycombe town centre and the exhibition venue.
This will be Fisherton Sarum’s second appearance at Wycrail as it made its public debut at the 2006 exhibition.

I sincerely hope you get a chance to visit at least one or other of the shows and please make sure you come and say hello, as it is always a pleasure to meet new friends made via this blog.
