Usually kicking off in October each year  the annual Wishlist poll is however taking a break for 2017, but should be back in 2018.

The Poll Team have advised that the short break will be helpful as the results of the last few years have been pretty consistent and  that some manufacturers are still in a bit of a ‘catch up’ mode with some of their already announced plans.  The poll has in the past been a useful indicator of what might appear in the manufacturers plans as since last years poll 15 new items have been announced in ’00’  alone, including many SR / BRs related as reported on this blog.  For example: of those 15 items announced 12 have been from the high polling segment, and the other 3 from the middle polling segment. Five of the items polled in the overall top 50.

The Poll Team aim to run the poll again next year by which time we will, no doubt, have further new announcements from manufacturers such as Hornby and Bachmann / Graham Farish, at the likes of the Warley National Model railway exhibition (25/26th November) and ,as is now custom, in January next year, which I am sure will include items to please us SR / BRs modellers that we would have been once again voting for anyway, so watch this space…

Over the last few years an annual wish list poll has been run as a collaboration between MREmag and  RMweb it is no coincidence that many of the items that have appeared at the top of these polls in past years have subsequently appeared in the main manufactures ranges.

The Wishlist Poll 2014 will run from 1 to 31 October and you can take part here.

The purpose of The Poll is to provide an easy and enjoyable way for modellers and collectors to tell the major manufacturers and commissioners of ready-to-run railway models what they would like to see made from new tooling (excluding models announced, tooled or made since 2000).

There are 21 categories in N and 00 covering: Steam locos of the Big Four and BR; Diesel & Electric Locos; DMUs & EMUs; Coaches; Non-passenger-carrying Coaching Stock; Freight Stock; General Service Stock; and other railway-related items (such as turntables). Two new categories this year cover Standard Gauge Industrial and London Underground.

To act as an aide-memoire, the 9-man Poll Team has again provided The Guide. If you don’t know the build dates of the various BR Mk1 catering vehicles, or whether one particular 0-6-0 steam loco will suit your needs better than others, you will find all the answers there – and many more! This guide can be found here.

If you have any queries, please contact The Poll Team by email here

Go on…vote for anything Southern you know you want to…go on…that’s right Southern…

The results of the 2013  MREmag and RMweb  annual wish list poll  has today been announced.
The poll provides a simple way for modellers and collectors alike to inform the major manufacturers and commissioners of ready-to-run railway models what they would like to see made from new tooling in N and 00 gauges.

Southern models featured well in both scales particularly in 00 with 5 out of the top ten steam locos and 7 of the the top 12  being: the Adams Radial (3rd), S15 (4th), 700 Class (5th), U class (7th) and H2 Atlantic (10th) . The often requested original air smoothed Merchant Navy was 12 after the H Class tank in 11th.  Southern Region’s class 71 and 74 were 2nd and third respectfully in the diesel and electric category. Whilst Southern coaching stock did not feature so highly the SR 6 Wheel milk tank was top of the non-passenger carrying coaching stock with the Gangwayed bogie luggage van 3rd. In the freight category the ex SECR 25t brake van came top with SR cattle wagon to dia 1529/1530 3rd and the Dia 1478 banana van in 6th. All of the above items also finished in the overall top 50.
In N gauge a Lord Nelson polled 3rd with surprisingly, considering Dapol have already announced their planned release, an original air smoothed Bulleid light pacific was in 6th.  An S15 was 9th and rebuilt Merchant Navy in 10th. As in 00 the gangwayed bogie luggage van and the ex SECR 25T brake van also polled highly  in 4th and 3rd respectively.

Over the last number of years that the poll has being run a number of the top voted items have subsequently been manufactured or announced. So although there is not a guarantee that winning models will be produced it does potentially increase the likelihood. It is known that manufacturers / commissioning retailers do take account of these results in when considering their future plans and some I know are already under consideration.

The full results can be found via the MREmag site here:

It’s that time of the year again when MREmag and RMweb run there annual wish list poll as a chance for all of us to vote for the railway models (in N and oo) that we would like to see made.
The poll provides a simple way for modellers and collectors alike to inform the major manufacturers and commissioners of ready-to-run railway models what they would like to see made from new tooling.
Over the last number of years that the poll has being run a number of the top voted items have subsequently been manufactured or announced. So although there is not a guarantee that winning models will be produced it does increase the likelihood, as it is known that manufacturers do take account of the results in when considering their future plans.

This years poll that can be found here via the RMweb forum (you do not have be a member of the forum  to take part in the poll) is running until 28th April 2013.

Whilst of course I am not in a position to influence any voting, the fact that you are reading this might mean that you have a Southern Railway or Southern Region persuasion and therefore voting in the SR categories could benefit us all…  Vote Southern!
